Wild Life Photography

Winter along the Mid-Atlantic is the perfect time for wildlife photography. Migratory waterfowl are moving along the Atlantic Flyway to such gathering places as Bombay Hook NWR in Smyrna, DE, the inlet in Ocean City, MD, and Blackwater NWR near Cambridge, MD. Winter birds flock to many county and state parks, especially those near the Bay or other large bodies of water. Photographers will find plenty of wildlife photo opportunities along the Susquehanna River in Havre de Grace, North Point State Park in Baltimore County, Centennial Lake in Howard County, and the Patterson Park Boat Lake in Baltimore City.

Winter is also the perfect time for wild life photography. Check out opportunities to capture images of skiers, snowboarders, polar bear plunges, snow sculptures, and so on. One of my favorite sure-to-satisfy wild life photo outings is a trip to a late season football game. This past weekend the Baltimore Ravens hosted the AFC Divisional playoff game against the Houston Texans. I spent several hours photographing outside the M&T Stadium (and then walked home to watch the game with family members). The tailgate parties were smoke and fun-filled. The Ravens Marching Band paraded nearby. Local radio celebrities cheered folks on during live on air programs. Best of all, the fans were decked out in their finest purple attire. Click on my image gallery to see the wild and wacky array of Purple Passion outfits and painted faces fans wore to this game. One Texan fan wore a fantastic cowboy hat complete with long horns. Many Ravens fans chose to demonstrate their support of quarterback Joe Flacco by wearing purple Fu Manchu mustaches. You have to admit that the Fear the Fu campaign and all the colorful outfits provided ample wild life photo ops and several hours of fun photography.

Go Ravens!
